The Quarry at Sinai

The Quarry:  A large outcropping of pure white marble is found way up the mountain on Jebel Maqla.  It is most interesting, because one of the Arabic meanings of Maqla is in fact, quarry.  This is profound to find when considering Isaiah 51:1.  Hearken to Me, you who follow after rightness and justice, you who seek and inquire of [and require] the Lord [claiming Him by necessity and by right]: look to the rock from which you were hewn and to the hole in the quarry from which you were dug; Isaiah 51:1 (AMP)

Over the years we made a number of attempts to get up to the quarry on Jebel Maqla, but were not able to do so until May 2003. It was an amazing exploration, especially to find pillars partially shaped and prepared still in situ within the quarry. Upon finding these still there, it was no longer a question as to the origin of the pillars below at the base of the mountain. They were cut from this beautiful quarry, right out of the side of the mountain itself!
