Jebel al Lawz – Mount Horeb

Top of Horeb (Lawz): An 8200’ granite pinnacle, shaped like an extruded starfish from the top, this imposing and majestic mountain stands out as the tallest peak in northwest Arabia. This is the most likely candidate for the Mt. Horeb of the Bible. “Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian.  And he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, (even) to Horeb”  Ex 3:1

The climb to the top of this mountain was by far the most difficult and challenging thing we ever attempted. It was only after repeated trips of dead end valleys and sharp chasms with thousand foot drop offs that we were finally able to find the way up: a hidden passage that led to the pinnacle of this amazing peak. And the view was well worth it!
